For almost four centuries, the Jews of Florence were confined to a ghetto built and owned by the Medici family located in the center of the city. Closed off by a gate, it was at once an island of segregation and the catalyst for the development of a rich Jewish culture.
This Fall, the Florentine Ghetto will be brought back to life, brick by brick, in an extraordinary exhibition at the world-renowned Pitti Palace – and the Temple Emanu-El Streicker Cultural Center has been offered a unique opportunity to celebrate this historic showcase of Jewish life with a private tour led by its curators. This celebration will include a long weekend exploring the beauty, the delectable tastes and the history of one of the world’s cultural capitals from our base at the five-star Savoy Hotel, built in the same square as where the Ghetto once stood.
